Around By the Sea

Situated on the sea front, across the road from the Napoleonic Redoubt Fortress and the Pavilion Tea Gardens, By the Sea is ideally located for visiting Eastbourne's many attractions and those of the surrounding areas. Stroll along the promenade beside the pebble beach to the typically English Victorian seaside pier; carry on to the Wish Tower passing the Band Stand where you can listen to a variety of musical extravaganzas during the summer months, some with firework displays; take a peek at the Lifeboat Museum; and for those who love to walk, carry on to Holywell at the foot of the South Downs where you can visit the peaceful Italian Gardens or stop off at the Holywell Tea Chalet for a welcome coffee or ice-cream. From Holywell you can climb the chalk cliffs to enjoy breath taking views of the sparkling waters of the English Channel and the Beachy Head and Belle Tout lighthouses. Alternatively, during the summer you can catch the Dotto Train by the Redoubt Fortress all the way to Holywell or in the other direction to bustling Sovereign Harbour with its shops, bars, restaurants and 3D cinema.

Eastbourne also boasts many restaurants, nightclubs, theatres, cinemas, parks and a busy shopping centre. A little further afield is Michelham Priory, Pevensey Court House Museum and Gaol, Lewes Castle, Anne of Cleves House, Newhaven Fort, the South Downs Heritage Centre, Seven Sisters' Country Park, Hastings & 1066 country, Brighton, and many more places of interest.

In addition, Eastbourne hosts many events throughout the year including Magnificent Motors with its vintage vehicle parade in May; the Beer and Cider Festival at the end of May; International Tennis in June; the Beach Life Festival with its extreme sports focus in July; Airborne, the biggest free airshow in the world, in August; the 10K Beachy Head Marathon in October; and Christmas Markets and a pantomime in December.
